Tell me if this sounds familiar -- you're sitting on a couch watching television, and the commercial breaks seem way longer than the snippets of the show you're actually trying to watch. As it turns out, some Dish Network customers have been granted a bit of respite from that advertising onslaught. Users who have their living rooms tricked out with the company's Hopper DVRs can now automatically skip every commercial break with a single touch thanks to their newly-launched
Auto Hop feature. They'll never have to sit (or 30-second skip) through another promo for America's Got Talent ever again... unless they're the kind of people who like their television live.

I think it is a great feature to add onto the Hopper. I thought the Hopper was an awesome receiver as it was, but this feature makes it even better. I know when I was told about it from a co-worker at Dish, I was super excited to try it out. I went home that night and caught up on some of my PrimeTime Anytime shows with this new feature. All I have to do is enable to feature before the show begins and I don’t have to worry about fast-forwarding through the commercials. It doesn’t completely eliminate the commercials, and you can go back and watch them if you want, which is pretty cool. I think Dish did a good thing for their customers adding this feature.

Why don’t CBS, FOX, and NBC execs want consumers to enjoy commercial-free TV? It’s what we want! I’m a customer and employee of Dish, and I think AutoHop is great because you can easily watch commercial-free TV. A well known consumer advocacy group, Public Knowledge, agrees that people should have the right to control how they watch TV. They’re taking a stand for consumers by creating a petition that tells CBS, FOX, and NBC media to keep their hands out of your living room and DVR. Sign their petition to keep control of how you watch TV http://bit.ly/KigXAn
