Cablevision unveiled its Optimum for iPad app with live TV streaming in the spring of 2011, then upgraded it to 2.0 with remote control and DVR scheduling plus an iPhone-compatible edition last fall, and now 3.0 has arrived on iOS with a whole new UI. The updated look makes the app more consistent with the web-based Optimum experience for PCs that launched in April, making it easier to find shows and view the guide well into the future as well as up to two hours into the past. Key to the upgraded discovery experience is the ability to rate TV shows which it uses to make recommendations on other content. The DVR section has even been revamped, making it easier to see what's been recorded and programs that are scheduled, as well as remaining storage space. The full changelog is available on iTunes, subscribers can grab the free apps for their respective devices at the links below.

Cablevision is a great provider, they were the first provider to offer their complete lineup streaming to IOS devices, the only hitch is you can’t leave your house with your mobile device and still stream. Understandably since they don’t have to do anything with that end of it, they have time to make the user interface very clean and leave room for their subscribers to rate programs they are watching on their iPad in their house. I still prefer to keep my live streaming to my mobile device outside of my house; I remember buying television to watch programs in my house with. I’ve been big into streaming since I started working nights at Dish, I have a nice long wait for the bus to show up so I have time to either sit and be bored or use the local hotspot to stream any one of my live channels or recorded shows to my mobile using the Dish Remote Access app with the help of my sling adapter. It lets me stay caught up on my favorite show, and fight off ever present boredom.
